You are warmly invited to join the School of Education’s Fall Faculty Symposium, AI in Education: Global Trends, Local Impact, on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, from 10 a.m. to  p.m. in Coburn Hall 255 (Ballroom) at UMass Lowell.

This year’s symposium explores how artificial intelligence is transforming education—from global strategies and policy frameworks to state initiatives and classroom practice. The event is designed around a Global, State, Local structure that highlights how international trends connect to Massachusetts’ vision and local implementation.

Program Highlights

Keynote Speaker: Russ Wilcox, CEO of ArtifexAI, AI policy expert, and two-time World Economic Forum speaker.
Topic: Navigating AI’s Global Landscape: Policy, Competition, and the Future of Education

Panel 1 – Supporting Education in the AI Era:
Featuring Grace Magley from Massachusetts Computer Using Educators (MassCUE), Paula Moore of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and Andréa (A.J.) Coté (DESE)
Focus: How Massachusetts is shaping AI policy, infrastructure, and professional learning to support educators.

Panel 2 – AI in the Schools:
Featuring Katherine King (UML School of Education), Kirk Taveras (UML / Methuen Middle School Educator), Ralph Saint Louis (UML / Lowell High School Educator), Catherine Sciortino (Xaverian Brothers High School), and Greg Limperis (Director of Technology in Lowell Public Schools)
Focus: Preparing and supporting teachers—pre-service and in-service—for thoughtful, equitable AI use in K–12 education.

The symposium will include opportunities for discussion, reflection and networking among faculty, students, teachers and community partners. Lunch will be provided.
