The roofing contractor working on the Campus Recreation Center recently identified an unforeseen issue involving a skylight that requires additional work and coordination. This development has affected the overall project schedule, and the university and construction team are working to minimize the impact while ensuring the work is completed safely.

As a result, the gymnasium courts and indoor track at the Campus Recreation Center will remain unavailable, likely through mid-November.

Alternative recreation options remain available for members of the UMass Lowell community. Basketball courts are open on South Campus near the Athletic Fields and Allen House, and two additional nets have been set up across the street on the tennis courts for use when not reserved for Intramural or Club Sports.

The fitness centers, studios and other areas of the Campus Recreation Center remain open and available for use.

The university recognizes the importance of these facilities to our community. Unforeseen issues such as this one, supply chain delays, and weather interruptions have all contributed to the extended project timeline. The construction team continues to work diligently, including overtime, to complete the project as efficiently and safely as possible.

We will continue to share updates as new information becomes available. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work toward delivering safe, improved recreation facilities for years to come.
