October 6–12: Stay Safe, Stay Smart
Fire Prevention Week is a great time to review how we can all help reduce fire risks on campus. Whether you're in a dorm, lab, office, or classroom, fire safety is everyone's responsibility.
Top Fire Safety Tips for Campus Life:
Never block fire exits or hallways.
Keep escape routes clear at all times.
Do not tamper with smoke detectors or fire alarms.
Keep fire doors closed** — they help contain smoke and flames during an emergency.
Use electrical devices responsibly.
Avoid overloading outlets or using damaged cords.
Cook only in designated areas** and never leave food unattended while cooking.
Store flammable materials properly**, especially in labs and workshops.
Prohibited Items in Dorms and Offices:
Open flame devices (candles, incense, etc.)
Extension cords used as permanent wiring
In Case of Fire:
1. Activate the nearest fire alarm pull station.
2. Evacuate the building immediately — do not use elevators.
3. Call Campus Safety 4-911 or 911 once outside.
4. Do not re-enter until cleared by emergency personnel.
Let’s work together to keep our university community safe.
