Students and faculty arriving on campus this fall will find a renovated South Campus plaza — along with a temporary detour around one section of the project.
Due to water that was getting into the basement of the McGauvran Center, a portion of the plaza has been excavated to enable waterproofing work on the building’s foundation. The work is expected to be completed by mid-September.
Until then, a section of the plaza and sidewalk outside the McGauvran Center has been fenced off. Two of the building’s three ground-level entrances remain open during the work.
The $1.8 million South Campus plaza project features improved walkways, lighting, outdoor seating and landscaping in the area between O’Leary Library, McGauvran Center and Weed Hall.
