The gymnasium courts and indoor track at the Campus Recreation Center remain temporarily unavailable due to ongoing building upgrades. A planned reopening of these facilities for the start of the academic year has been delayed due to circumstances beyond the university’s control.

Alternative recreation options are available to members of the UMass Lowell community. Basketball courts are located on South Campus, near the Athletic Fields and Allen House. Two additional nets have been set up across the street on the tennis courts and can be used when those courts are not reserved for Intramural or Club Sports activities. In the meantime, other facilities at the Campus Recreation Center – including the fitness centers and studios – remain open and available.

The university recognizes the importance of these facilities to our community. Unavoidable challenges, such as supply chain issues and weather interruptions, have affected the timeline for a needed roof replacement at the Campus Recreation Center. The construction team is working diligently, including overtime, to move the project forward quickly and safely.

Updates on the Recreation Center will be provided as new information is available. Thank you for your patience as this important project is completed to ensure safe and improved facilities for years to come.
