Effective Nov. 1, 2025, UMass Lowell will discontinue email access for retirees without an active university role. This change aligns with UMass system-wide practices and supports more efficient management of email licensing and storage.

Following this change:

  • Retirees who are not actively engaged with the university will have their @uml.edu accounts deactivated.
  • Retirees with an active role may retain access if their status is formally recognized: 
    • For retirees working for UMass Lowell (paid roles): Must be active in the HR system.
    • Unpaid roles: A Sponsored Guest Form must be submitted and renewed annually.
  • Active roles may include contract/consulting work, teaching, research, advisory positions, Emeritus status, and/or volunteering.

Retirees will receive direct email communications this week, in September, and in October to help them prepare.
