Come watch the Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race (LKSR) - a wild Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) event of human-powered, all-terrain sculptures careen through the streets of Lowell. Contestants cruise over cobblestones, manage the maniacal Maddening Mudpit outside the Tsongas Arena, and wade in the waters of the Merrimack River Plunge at the Heritage State Park across from South Campus.

This all free event has shuttle services to bring you to and from all of the spots and a terrific line-up of food trucks for lunch at the park. Riding your beautiful bike, wearing a fancy fit, or donning a hilarious hat are all highly encouraged!

This year's judges include our very own Joseph Hartman, provost and vice chancellor of Academic Affairs, as well as Courtney McSparron from Mill City Grows, Bora Chiemroum from the Ankor Dance Troupe, and Brian Bradbury of the Merrimack Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Visit the LKSR website for more information.

For the glory!!!

LKSR was co-founded by Professor Michael Roundy of the Art and Design Department and Bianca Mauro of BRM Production Management in 2016. The race donates all merchandise profits to the STEM Academy, a Lowell grade school that emphasizes STEAM initiatives.
