As we embrace the summer season, the Employee Health & Wellness Collaborative encourages you to stay active, safe, and well. Here are some tips, resources, and upcoming activities to help you make the most of the warmer months:
June: Summer Wellness
- Stay Hydrated and Sun-Safe: Drink plenty of water and use sunscreen to protect your skin. Did you know that UML is a certified skin smart campus? We provide free sunscreen to all community members. Sunscreen dispensers are located: on North Campus outside of Starbucks, on the CRC complex, and at the Kayak Center. Learn more about protecting your skin.
- Enjoy the Outdoors: Engage in activities like hiking, biking, or a friendly game of pickleball.
- Practice Water Safety: Always swim with a buddy, supervise children near water, and be aware of currents and conditions. View Massachusetts Water Safety Guidelines.
- Join us at our June Event: Faculty/Staff Afternoon Ruck on June 11 at 4 p.m.! Rucking is walking or hiking with a weighted backpack. We will begin at the Campus Recreation Center and walk for 35-45 minutes. Backpacks & weights are optional and will be provided! Sign up to join.
July: Physical Fitness
- Join a Fitness Challenge: Motivate yourself and others by setting and achieving fitness goals together.
- Exercise Smart: Opt for early-morning or evening workouts to avoid peak heat hours.
- Try Something New: Explore activities like dance classes, outdoor yoga, or team sports to keep your routine exciting.
- Join us at our July Event: Free Kayaking at the Boathouse on July 10 4-6 p.m.! Take advantage of our free kayak, canoe, or SUP rentals at the Bellegarde Boathouse (500 Pawtucket Blvd. Lowell, MA 01854)! Basic strokes and river safety will be reviewed. Register online. A waiver will also need to be submitted.
Reminder: UMass Lowell Campus Recreation Center Access
