We’re mindful of the landscape of higher education these days, as well as the changing nature of our country’s international relationships and programs. Many of us are grappling with uncertainty in our research, our teaching and the future of both.

UMass Lowell has worked to support our faculty and their research during this turbulent time, as described in previous communications, and we remain fully committed to supporting our faculty through their educational and professional development.

To that end, we encourage you to consider the unique opportunities provided by the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program, which is now accepting applications for the 2026-27 academic year. In its nearly 80 year history, the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program has created tremendous impact and generated broad goodwill. This government-sponsored program matches inspired and accomplished scholars from the U.S. with an array of avenues for research, teaching and participation in other educational programs around the world with over 383 unique opportunities.

Fulbright Scholar experiences are intellectually rewarding and rejuvenating. Alumni of the program return to their classrooms, labs and offices with fresh ideas and perspectives, as well as the benefits of an expanded network.

Much like the career-connected experiences we encourage for UMass Lowell students, connections through the Fulbright Scholars program could be just the thing a member of our faculty or staff might need to change perspectives, find inspiration and deepen their knowledge and understanding of their field.

If you think this could be a good fit, please learn more about the Fulbright Scholars program on the Office of the Provost’s website and do not hesitate to contact UMass Lowell’s Fulbright Scholar Liaison at Meylia_Kurnianto@uml.edu.

The deadline for the 2026-27 cycle is Sept 15, 2025, so it makes an excellent summer project.
