Denim Day is an annual campaign that encourages people to wear denim in solidarity with sexual assault survivors and to raise awareness about sexual violence. It aims to combat victim blaming and promote education about consent.
The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove them, thereby implying consent. Following the reversal, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.
Stand with others in our UMass Lowell community to show survivors our support. If you would like more information about this or other efforts, please contact Melissa Wall at Melissa_Wall@uml.edu.
