We understand that Thursday's delayed opening announcement was communicated later than ideal for many faculty, staff and students, and we sincerely regret any inconvenience this caused. We recognize how frustrating it can be to receive a delay notification with limited time to adjust your schedule, especially for those traveling longer distances.

The Storm Team makes decisions based on the most accurate and up-to-date information available, always prioritizing the safety of the campus community. However, weather conditions can shift rapidly, as we saw Thursday.

The temperature did not warm up as quickly as predicted and unexpectedly began to freeze, creating hazardous conditions on sidewalks and in parking lots. These sudden changes make early determinations challenging, as forecasts do not always capture the precise timing or severity of such transitions.

That said, we acknowledge the impact of Thursday's timing on our campus community.
