The UMass Lowell Office of Life Safety & Emergency Management will be conducting a test of the UMass Lowell Emergency Alert System on Tuesday, February 11, at approximately 9:15 a.m. The test will last for about two minutes.
As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance campus safety, this test ensures that all components of our alert system function correctly and that our campus community knows what to expect in the event of an emergency. We encourage all students, faculty, and staff to take a moment to log in to the UML Alerts system to verify and update their contact information.
During this test, emergency notifications will be sent via:
1. Text and email messages through UML Alerts
2. Updates on the uml.edu website
3. Additional alerting technologies (details below)
Expanded Emergency Notification Features include:
Rave Guardian App
All campus community members are encouraged to download the free Rave Guardian App through the Apple App or Google Play Store which provides:
1. Direct push notifications for emergency alerts
2. The Safety Timer feature for personal security
3. Quick access to emergency procedures and safety resources
X (Formelrly Twitter) Alerts (@UMLAlerts)
Emergency messages will be automatically posted to @UMLAlerts on Twitter. Follow us to stay informed.
Desktop Alerts
For campus computers that are powered on, emergency messages will appear directly on the screen during the test. If you do not regularly restart your computer, please do so before February 11 to ensure the software is installed and functioning properly. Messages will include an “Acknowledge” button to clear the alert once read.
In-Building Voice Announcements
In more than 25 buildings across campus, emergency messages will be broadcast through the fire alarm system speakers. Buildings equipped with yellow strobe lights will also flash during the test. Additional buildings will be added to this system throughout the year.
Outdoor Emergency Blue Phones
Select Emergency Blue Phones around campus will be activated, with flashing blue lights and voice announcements broadcast from the speakers on top of the phones.
This test is a critical step in strengthening our emergency response capabilities and ensuring that every member of the UMass Lowell community can receive timely and accurate emergency information.
