Abstract:
This research focuses on the preparation of centimeter-scale Cu(111) foils and their application in synthesizing high-quality single-layer graphene. A one-pot thermal annealing method was developed to transform polycrystalline Cu into single-crystal Cu(111), ensuring uniform crystallinity and surface orientation critical for graphene growth. Raman spectroscopy and mapping confirmed the formation of high-quality graphene, with optimized processing conditions minimizing defects. Furthermore, substrate engineering strategies were employed to control graphene's chemical reactivity by tuning the morphology and crystal orientation of the Cu substrate. This study not only demonstrates an efficient approach for producing high-quality graphene but also highlights the substrate's role in tailoring graphene properties for applications in catalysis, electronics, and advanced material systems.

All interested students and faculty members are invited to attend.
