Nineteen entities across Massachusetts, representing a range of industries and sectors, were recognized for helping to guide the commonwealth to a net-zero future. Other awardees include the City of Boston, Boston College and Moderna.
UML was recognized for completing over 30 projects across more than a dozen buildings, including Perry Hall, the Saab Emerging Technologies and Innovation Center, the Campus Recreation Center and the Jacqueline Moloney Performing Arts Center.
These upgrades and improvements are expected to save over 400,000 therms of gas and nearly 8,000 megawatt hours of electricity, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions by more than 2,000 tons.
In its award announcement, Sponsors of Mass Save noted that, “This effort highlights UMass Lowell's commitment to sustainability and its proactive approach to reducing its carbon footprint and enhancing energy efficiency across its campus.”
UML is the highest-rated campus in Massachusetts for sustainability, according to the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
UML was also named a Mass Save Climate Leader in 2022, the inaugural year of the program.
