September Community Thursdays Event with Eliot Day Center!
Join the Center for Community Research & Engagement for our first Community Thursday event of the year on Thursday, Sept. 19 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at 150 Wilder St. Our featured organization this month is Eliot Day Center, a hub in Lowell where our unhoused neighbors can access spiritual care, person-centered support, and tangible resources for obtaining and maintaining safe and stable housing.
Faculty, staff, and students are invited to learn more about the vital work of the Eliot Day Center and the types of collaborations they are interested in forming with our UML community.
A little more about the services provided by Eliot Day Center:
Resources: They offer coffee, a continental breakfast as well as occasional hot meals, a clean restroom, wi-fi, electricity for phone charging, clothing, and personal hygiene items.
Housing Readiness: Their Director of Client and Community Relationships assists people with documents for housing readiness. A representative from Community Teamwork, Inc., is onsite one day a week to help our guests become housed.
Spiritual Care: A chaplain is available for prayer and pastoral counseling. They offer a Christian worship service on Wednesday mornings for all who would like to participate, and there is time to pray together once a week as well.
Wellness: A nurse and harm reduction specialist is onsite on Mondays. They offer five recovery groups during the week, as well as a recovery art class.
There are amazing people doing important work in our community, both on and off campus. Join us for this informal conversation to talk about how we can support each other and collaborate to improve the lives of everyone in our community.
