As messaging strategies and tactics continue to evolve, the office focused on telling UMass Lowell’s story will receive a new name that more clearly articulates the work and mission of UMass Lowell’s core messaging team.
Moving forward, the Office of University Relations will become the Office of Brand, Communications & Creative Strategy. The new name defines the strategic leadership provided by the office and also reflects a new organizational structure.
Brand, Comms and Creative has been realigned to meet the needs of a university on the precipice of Research 1 status, with a new strategic plan, faculty achievements on the national and international stages and countless stories of success as the university works to differentiate itself from competitors.

- Communications Strategy — Led by Jon Strunk and composed of media relations, web content and communications strategists, the Communications Strategy team oversees the content of the uml.edu website, the university’s proactive and reactive engagement with external media, social media strategy, executive and internal communications and crisis communication and issues management.
- Content and Creative — Led by Sarah Corbett and composed of writers, editors and graphic designers, the Content and Creative team leads the development of smart, engaging communications that tell UMass Lowell’s unique stories and elevate its brand in the higher education marketplace and beyond.
- Web Development and Experience — Led by Gerry Nelson and composed of designers, developers and administrators, the Web team manages the uml.edu web domain, dozens of web applications that streamline business operations, support student success and retention and maintains the technology that supports the communications and marketing functions of Brand, Comms and Creative to ensure accessibility across all platforms, browsers and devices.
