June 29-July 3, right between Session I and II of summer classes; Register by June 1
The St. Regis Canoe Area is an 18,400 acre wilderness inside the Adirondack Park, a beautiful landscape of lakes and ponds in a wilderness setting. This wilderness area is truly wilderness - no roads, no ranger cabins, not even signs between lakes. To travel in this area we will be paddling lightweight canoes with our gear, and sometimes portaging (walking) between lakes on trails of varying lengths. Some will be challenging, some will be easier. We even have the opportunity to hike up St Regis Mountain, as well, which ascends more than 1,200 feet with lovely views over the lakes. We will be backcountry camping in tents with all of our own gear. Weather allowing, we will enjoy campfires (and s'mores of course!) in the evening, as well. Get a glimpse of the wildlife and the diverse plants. You can even choose to bring some fishing gear with your NY fishing license. The Outdoor Adventure Program staff have all the experience to share to guide you successfully through this trip!
No experience paddling or camping is necessary. Registration fees cover everything, transportation, food, gear (including sleeping bags and sleeping pads), and expert trip leaders. $375 for a UML student, faculty or staff ($200 deposit, plus final payment of $175). Non-UML guests are welcomed on this trip, $550 ($300 deposit, plus final payment of $250). Group size is limited to 6 people, so join now while space remains.
