Please join the BNS Department on Wednesday, March 15 at 3:30 p.m. in Coburn Hall, Room G30, where Sheman Bigornia will discuss dietary fat quality in relation to brain health, focusing on his epidemiological research among Hispanic/Latino adults. He will highlight current research projects among Hispanic/Latino adults to design and evaluate culturally-tailored nutrition education targeting fish consumption and quantify dairy consumption's potential impact on cognitive function.

Bigornia is an Assistant Professor of Nutrition at the University of New Hampshire, Department of Agriculture, Nutrition, and Food Systems. He received his Ph.D. from Boston University and has conducted postdoctoral research at Boston Medical Center (Cardiovascular Epidemiology) and UMass Lowell (Nutritional Epidemiology). His lab focuses on using epidemiological approaches to identify dietary risk factors of age-related health conditions and to use those findings to develop programs to support healthy yet culturally appropriate ways of eating. He currently has two parallel areas of research. One is to understand better the importance of dietary fat in depression and cognitive function among Hispanic/Latino adults. The other is to identify barriers and facilitators of fish consumption to develop and evaluate culturally-tailored nutrition education among resource-limited communities.
