The impact of Friday’s Supreme Court decision on abortion rights has been immediate and – for tens of millions of Americans – overwhelming. While Friday’s decision does not change abortion rights for Massachusetts residents, we all have family, friends and colleagues in states where the impact has been immediate and far-reaching. UMass Lowell fully supports the personal, legal, private health decisions of all people and remains resolute in our commitment to a welcoming, inclusive campus where the rights of all persons are equally respected and upheld.

Like any family, group or organization, the thousands of individuals who comprise the UMass Lowell community undoubtedly have widely divergent views of this outcome. As conversations about abortion increase in the coming weeks and months on campus, whether as part of your professional expertise or in informal discussions with colleagues, we know you will retain respect for opposing opinions and compassion for those with feelings ranging between anger, joy, sadness and despair.

Whether due to this or any other recent challenge many of us are dealing with individually or as a society, please remember as a UMass Lowell community member, counseling resources are available 24/7. Employees can access the Employee Assistance Program by calling 844-393-4983. Students can call 855-890-2879 for immediate help or contact Counseling Services at 978-934-6800 during normal business hours.
