The Kennedy College of Science, Department of Chemistry, invites you to attend a doctoral dissertation defense by Anna Maria Routsi entitled “Fluid permeable materials and devices for chemical sensing and wearable thermoelectrics.”

The defense will be held on Monday, June 28 at 1 p.m. by Zoom. Please contact Matthew Gage for meeting information if you are interested in attending.

The committee will be composed of Dionysios Christodouleas (chair), David K. Ryan, Kwok-Fan Chow and Jayant Kumar. A brief abstract is provided below.

Abstract: Three-dimensional, fluid-permeable structures (paper, fabric and wire meshes) have been used as templates whose surface has been modified to make new materials suitable for specific applications such as the thermoelectric conversion of temperature differences into power or the electrochemical sensing of analytes in the field. The new materials have been incorporated into new proof-of-concept devices (i.e., wearable thermoelectric generators and filter-like electrochemical cells) that can open the way for the development of new devices with many practical applications.

All interested students and faculty members are invited to attend.
