Please join WAVES (Women Academics Valued and Engaged in STEM) on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2021 at noon for the latest 50/50 lecture, sponsored by the Office of the Provost.

The invited speaker is Kevin Kumashiro, former Dean of the School of Education at the University of San Francisco. Kumashiro's presentation is titled "Five Lenses for Education and Social Justice” Personal Journeys and Social Movements." The lecture is hosted by UML Associate Professor Phitsamay Uy of the Curriculum and Instruction Department College of Education.

The 50/50 Lecture Series is a unique format geared at both promoting a notable scholar's work and highlighting the varied paths that lead to successful careers. Half of the speaker's time will be allotted to his technical, educational and research interests, and the other half will be devoted to his career path, detailing, for example, challenges overcome or the influence of mentors. The 50/50 lectures are designed to inspire established and emerging professionals to persevere not only by considering the example set by leaders in their field but by looking at their own career holistically. Graduate students are welcome!

This 50/50 lecture will be held virtually via Zoom.
