Brief Abstract:

3D Printing of Thermoset Elastomers: Material Development and Process Characterization

3D printing of fully compounded rubber is still unexplored even after twenty-nine years since the first patent awarded for Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) in 1992. In Chapter-1, a Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) based fully compounded thermoset elastomer was developed for additive manufacturing by the Fused Filament Fabrication process. In Chapter-2, the 3D printing process for thermoset elastomers was also characterized based on different printing parameters. And finally, in Chapter-3, the knowledge gathered in the prior two chapters was utilized to develop two fully compounded elastomers based on EPDM and high molecular weight Silicone rubber.

All interested students and faculty members are invited to attend the online defense via remote access.
