There is currently no way to prevent an accidental unplugging of an appliance that is plugged into an outlet. This is dangerous, especially for children because they can get hurt because of electrical outlets. Team Smart Outlet pitched their idea of a smart outlet that can secure and lock in place. This would increase safety and prevent children from injuring themselves through unprotected outlets.

Team Smart Safety Outlet was awarded the Jack. M. Wilson First Product to Market Award (Sponsored by Jack Wilson, President Emeritus) including $4,000 in funding to process their idea further during the 2020 DifferenceMaker $50,000 Idea Challenge.
