Meetings

  • 4 per year just prior to each semester and intersession. 
  • September Convocation, December Holiday Party, March Town Meeting and May Annual Meeting. 
  • The upcoming schedule is presented and sign-ups for Study Groups are available.

Schedule of Study Groups 

  • 2 Semesters: Fall (September) and Spring (March) 
  • 8 weeks each 
  • Monday , Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. – noon and 1 – 3 p.m. 
  • Wednesday Art & Music 10 a.m. – noon* 
  • Friday Book Discussion once/month 

Intersessions 

  • Winter: January and February
  • Summer: July and August
  • 8 weeks each 
  • Wednesday 10 a.m. – noon 
  • Lectures and tours* 

*If car pooling or bus tours are assigned, meet at Hannaford’s in Drum Hill, Chelmsford. Use parking lot in back left area. 

Newsletter 

  • Published four times a year: September, December, March and May 
  • Provides information about our class programs including the times, dates and meeting place as well as reviews of previous programs, events of interest in the Lowell area and membership news. 

Membership Directory

Each member will receive a directory of all current LIRA members. Updates are provided in the Newsletter. If you are a graduate of UMass Lowell, we keep a record of this information for the university.

Volunteering 

LIRA is an all volunteer organization. Each member is encouraged to contribute as they can to our organization. 

  • There are six standing committees: Curriculum, Membership, Hospitality, Scholarship, Publicity and Newsletter.
  • Ad Hoc committees may be formed from time to time 
  • We always are in need of Study Group Coordinators and Refreshment volunteers. 
  • Check the Newsletter for volunteer opportunities. 

Name Tags 

Each new member should receive a name tag shortly after he or she joins. If you don’t receive a name tag please speak up. Please remember to wear you name tag at all classes and LIRA activities.
