Patricia Sullivan Talty received a Bachelor of Arts degree in American studies and secondary education from UMass Lowell and a law degree from Suffolk University Law School. As a UMass Lowell undergraduate, she met fellow Student Government Association member Frank Talty, whom she married in 1979.
She practiced law for over 35 years and, with her husband, founded the firm of Talty & Talty, P.C., in Lowell.
For most of her career, she was an adjunct professor at UMass Lowell, where she taught courses in law and politics. For several years before her retirement, she was an assistant teaching professor at the university.
Together with her brothers, Talty endowed the Sullivan Memorial Scholarship, in honor of her parents and brother Doug, for residents of Lowell and Lawrence pursuing a degree in education. She serves on the advisory board of UMass Lowell’s Honors College and the board of Lee County Legal Aid in Florida.
Talty was honored with a 2023 University Alumni Award in recognition of her efforts to help countless students pursue careers in the legal profession through her teaching, volunteering and mentoring.
