Biosketch

Lieutenant Colonel Darren F. Lee is the Commander of Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 345 and serves as the Department Chair and Professor of Aerospace Studies at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. He leads five faculty and staff members in educating and training officer candidates through a comprehensive program of academics, leadership exercises, and physical fitness to ensure candidates have the professional and moral acumen to succeed as commissioned officers.

Lieutenant Colonel Lee graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2005 and is a career Foreign Area and Intelligence Officer. Prior to this assignment, he was the Chief, Latin American, Europe, Eurasia Branch, Joint Staff J-22, where his responsibilities included leading daily operations for 52 analysts and graphic designers supporting three geographic regions and Russia, including coordinating with intelligence organizations throughout the world in support of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff requirements. Lieutenant Colonel Lee has held numerous positions during Joint and Air Force assignments in Jordan, Alaska, Korea, and Japan, including detachment command. In 2008, he deployed to Camp Navarro, Philippines as the collection manager for Joint Special Operations Task Force – Philippines, where he was responsible for all theater collection operations. In 2012, he deployed to Southwest Asia, where he led SILENT SHIELD operations for the Combined Joint Special Operations Air Component. Lieutenant Colonel Lee is proficient in Arabic.
