Summer Pre-College Programs

Choose from our 4-Week UPRISE or 6-Program Options

Rising high school juniors and seniors have various options to engage with UMass Lowell over the summer while also earning college credit.

UPRISE: Understanding Power, Resisting Injustice, Summer Experience

During this 4-week experience, you will learn how to become an effective agent of social change while also earning college credit. In this program you will spend your first two weeks living and learning on campus and will be led by faculty from our Department of Sociology and Labor Studies Program. While living with other emerging activists you will attend classes with experts in issues of social justice and will also connect with local and state community organizations and leaders. After two weeks on campus, you will have the analytical tools to understand social problems and the skills to resist injustice. In the final two weeks of this program, you will continue working with others on your group project while attending virtual, or in-person, meetings with UMass Lowell faculty members. UPRISE will hold a showcase experience where students will present their group work to UMass Lowell community members and their families and will be followed by the Successfully Launched BBQ

Program Dates

  • On Campus: July 16-28, 2023. Students will move in on Sunday, July 16 to begin coursework on Monday, July 17, 2023.
  • Virtual/On-campus: July 31-August 11, 2023

Program Fee: $2,600

 UPRISE Online Registration

6-Week Program

Rising high school juniors and seniors also have the option to participate in our signature 6-week program. Students can complete up to two courses during this program. In addition, students are supported with weekly faculty roundtable discussions, student success coaching, tutoring, and regular check-ins on course progress by first year professional advisors.

6-Week Pre-College Program Online Registration

  • Program Dates: July 5-August 14, 2023
  • Courses: choose one or two courses from:
    • MATH.1115 Fundamentals of Algebra: 3 credits (placement test required)
    • MATH.1200 Precalculus 1: 3 credits (placement test required)
    • MATH.1230 Precalculus 2: 3 credits (placement test required)
    • MATH.1310 Calculus 1: 4 credits (placement test required)
    • CHEM.1020 Forensic Chemistry for Non-Scientist: 3 credits
    • ACCT.2010 Fundamentals of Accounting: 3 credits
    • LGST.2620 Business Law: 3 credits
