Decoration Guidelines

The use and approval of all decorations will be reviewed during walk-throughs with building staff. The purpose of our decoration guidelines is to ensure the safety of the UMass Lowell community and to maintain facility up-keep. Please see below for a list of Permitted and Non-Permitted decorations.

Permitted Decorations

  • LED Candles
  • Customized LED lighting
  • Free standing decorations (do not require tape or putty)
  • Tied-Down balloons
  • Banners (which can be attached to pipe and drape)
  • Centerpieces (which to not contain any items on restrictions list below

Non-Permitted Decorations

  • Anything attached/taped to walls and doors
  • Candles (with open flame)
  • Glitter
  • Fine sand / powder
  • Helium filled mylar or latex balloons

Painting Guidelines

As a staff member or student group requesting an event with painting related activities, the process, supplies, and spaces available for such activities should be clear to all event organizers. Below are the approved spaces, procedures, and resources to ensure the events with paint happen seamlessly.

The approved spaces in University Crossing (UCC) are the Atrium, the Club Hub and UCC-242.

Process - Student Groups

  • Requests must be submitted through Engage in one of the approved spaces.
  • Any meetings, socials, bonding activities, or open events involving paint MUST be noted in Engage for a Program Advisor.
  • Program advisor will check in with the student group to verify they have all of their needed supplies.
  • Sponsoring group(s) will be provided a tarp/sheeting based on requested size of room.
  • Tarp/Sheeting will be setup by Hospitality and Events or the University Crossing Operations Team
  • Supplies beyond tarp/sheeting for approved location will be at expense of group.

Process - Faculty/Staff Groups

  • Requests must be submitted through 25Live in one of the approved spaces.
  • Any reoccurring meetings involving paint MUST be noted within reservation, or noted ahead of meeting by at least (3-5) business days with Hospitality and Event Services or the University Crossing Operations Team.
  • Sponsoring person(s) are responsible for purchasing all supplies including tarp/sheeting
  • Size of tarp/sheeting to be purchased will be provided by Hospitality and Events or the Crossing Operations team based on the room being utilized.
  • Tarp/Sheeting will be setup by Hospitality and Events or the University Crossing Operations Team

Emergency/Spill

  • If a spill occurs, a quick response is best.
  • Inform the staff member of building (if available) or call UMass LOwell (UML) Police to inform facilities of incident.

  • Plastic Tarp/Sheeting
  • Paint (acrylic paint preferred)
  • Paint Brushes
  • Pallets (or plates)
  • Cups (for water)
  • Napkins
  • Canvas/object to paint

Donation Bin Guidelines

Location

The bin will be available for use in the Atrium between Starbucks and the Welcome Desk.

Bin

The group will be required to provide their own bins at this time

How to reserve the bin

Students: For student groups to reserve the Donation Bin please request via Engage.
Faculty/Staff: For Faculty/Staff groups to reserve the Donation Bin please request via 25Live.

Bin Policy

  • Bin can be requested to be used by student, faculty or staff.
  • The Bin cannot be used for more than 2 weeks (unless specified by UCCOPS Team).
  • As the bin begins to fill, the requestor is responsible for coordinating the pick up of the items.
  • The bin is not allowed to leave the designated location.
  • Signage can be placed on the bin in the designated areas.

Student Procedure

  • Student group will request bin through Engage.
  • Student Activities and Leadership will assign a designee to review and grant approval for request.
  • Once request has been approved the SAL designee will input it into 25Live.

Faculty/Staff Procedure

  • Faculty/Staff groups will request bin through 25Live.
  • University Crossing operations will assign a designee to review and grant approval for request.
  • Faculty/Staff will requesting using UML-INFO and include location in description in 25Live.
  • UCCOPS Staff will approve in 25Live using the following procedure:
  • UCCOPS will update location to “UCC-Donation Bin” as the location with the actual location mentioned in the notes.
  • Ensure there is (1) hour of Setup and (1) hour of Breakdown Time
  • Then assign the resource “UCC-Donation Bin” and “UCC-Setup Staff”
