How Microaggressions Are Like Mosquito Bites

Microaggressions are verbal, non-verbal, and/or environmental snubs and insults based on gender and other marginalized group membership. Notoriously difficult to address, microaggressions tend to reinforce stereotypes and undermine their targets’ confidence. Survey results at UMass Lowell indicate that women STEM faculty experience a disproportionate number of microaggressions.
