Event will honor outgoing leader’s vision, accomplishments

When and Where: Saturday, March 5, reception for Chancellor Jacquie Moloney begins at 4:30 p.m. in the Talon Club; pre-game salute to seniors begins at 5:50 p.m., Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell, 300 Martin Luther King Jr. Way, Lowell

What: The UMass Lowell community will honor Chancellor Jacquie Moloney at a reception before the River Hawks men’s hockey team faces off against the University of New Hampshire Wildcats.

Moloney, an internationally recognized leader in education who earned two degrees at UMass Lowell, worked her way up from an entry-level position during more than 30 years at the university. Under her leadership, UMass Lowell has been ranked among the top 20 organizations on the Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts list for the past five years. She will step down as chancellor in June.

State and city leaders are among those expected to attend the event. Speakers are scheduled to include hockey Coach Norm Bazin and UMass Lowell Student Government Association President Neyder Fernandez, a first-generation college student from Lowell who is a double-major in political science and peace and conflict studies.

River Hawk fans will have a chance to pay tribute to Moloney during a special presentation between the game’s first and second periods. Seniors on the River Hawks squad and those performing in the UMass Lowell Jazz Rock Big Band or with the UMass Lowell Ice Hawks who are participating in the last regular-season game of their college careers before the start of the Hockey East playoffs will also be acknowledged during the evening.

The first 1,000 fans through the gate will receive a puck commemorating the event.
