Statement from Peter Casey, UMass Lowell Athletic Director:
“In late May, UMass Lowell learned that one of our now-former student-athletes, Mark Mayle, had been charged in Ohio with, and has since pled guilty to, domestic violence. As soon as UMass Lowell learned of these serious allegations, he was immediately dismissed from the team and the university began an investigation. Additionally, measures have put in place to ensure the safety of the community while the investigation is underway.
“In such matters, the university conducts an investigation and student conduct process separate from any legal proceeding to determine appropriate university disciplinary action.
“UMass Lowell has no tolerance for abusive behavior and encourages all students and employees who experience or witness such actions to immediately report them to the proper authorities in law enforcement, human resources and student affairs.”
