Last month two students from the Structural Dynamics and Acoustic Systems Laboratory (SDASL) represented UML as they presented their research at the ASME 2019 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences & Computers and Information in Engineering Conference (IDETC/CIE 2019) in Anaheim, Calif.

Bahadir Sarikaya and Caleb Traylor are doctoral students working with Prof. Murat Inalpolat in the mechanical engineering department. Sarikaya’s research is on torsional vibration improvements in automotive applications, and Traylor is working on damage detection methods for wind turbine blades.

ASME IDETC/CIE is one of the largest annual ASME conferences, as researchers came from around the world for over 1,000 presentations. Presenting at IDETC/CIE 2019 gave Sarikaya and Traylor an opportunity to share their research contributions with colleagues and learn from some of the leading experts in their respective fields.

Sarikaya and Traylor presented these conference papers:
  • Sarikaya B, Inalpolat M, Lee H, Kim M, “An Analytical Investigation of the Impact of Design Parameters on the Performance of Centrifugal Pendulum Vibration Absorbers,” Paper presented at 2019 International Power Transmission and Gearing Conference; Anaheim, CA.
  • Traylor C, Inalpolat M. “A Computational Investigation into the Impact of Sensor Location on the Acoustics-Based Damage Detection from an Airfoil Structure.” Paper presented at: 31st Conference on Mechanical Vibration and Noise 2019; Anaheim, CA.
