Add Philosophy to Your Other Studies
Philosophy’s degree pathway is intentionally flexible, which allows you to combine philosophy courses with majors and minors in other humanities disciplines, as well as those in the natural and social sciences.
Learn how you can make philosophy work for you:
Add a Philosophy Major: Thinking about double majoring? With 30 flexible credits, the Philosophy major is easy to combine with primary majors in colleges outside of the College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, as well as within our college.
Recent graduates have paired philosophy with:
- Psychology
- History
- Biology
- Engineering
And philosophy complements many other paths across the humanities and sciences.
Add a Philosophy Minor: A minor in philosophy requires a minimum of six classes, making it easy to combine with other majors and minors on campus.
Many science, engineering, social science and health science majors will find that philosophy has much to offer concerning communication and social responsibility.
UMass Lowell’s Philosophy Department offers philosophy courses across both north and south campuses with a satellite office on north campus (Falmouth, room 200).
Courses of interest include:
- Philosophy of science
- Biology & philosophy
- Bioethics
- Public health ethics
- Medicine & philosophy
- Philosophy of disability
- AI Ethics
- Science and religion
If you’re a science student looking for electives, philosophy has great options. Speak with a philosophy advisor about courses that would complement your chosen degree path.
