To attract applicants for these scholarships, announcements are sent in the fall to the Financial Aid Office, the Honors College and various university offices. When space is available, an announcement is printed in the Lowell Connector, the student newsletter. The scholarship application form (doc) may be downloaded.
To qualify, a student must be full-time, have a grade point average of 3.0 or better and participate in extracurricular and/or community service activities. They also must obtain a reference from a UMass Lowell professor or a community service supervisor. On the application, they are asked to list their activities and awards. A second question asks them to list their goals and purposes in life and how their University education contributes toward this. Financial need is not a requirement. The Scholarship Committee reviews in detail all applications and chooses the four recipients.
We encourage all qualified students to watch for the announcement each fall and submit an application. The deadline will be on the application form. Scholarships will be awarded in early December.
