Biosketch
Fadilat Amisu is a Civil Engineering major with a minor in Architectural Studies from Lynn, Massachusetts. She chose UMass Lowell because of the opportunities it provides to gain hands-on experience through co-op programs, research opportunities, and more.
Throughout high school, she was involved in various mentorship and leadership programs, where she experienced significant personal and professional growth. These experiences showed her the value of seeking out opportunities that challenge her, build her confidence, and allow her to continue growing.
At UMass Lowell, Fadilat serves as the President of the North American Society for Trenchless Technology (NASTT) Student Chapter and previously led the CIM-LRD Student Competition during her sophomore year. These experiences have allowed her to continue developing her leadership and communication skills while stepping outside of her comfort zone.
Fadilat believes that leadership means being able to communicate effectively, listen to others, encourage those around her, take accountability, and create opportunities for others to succeed. She believes there is no single definition of leadership and looks forward to continuing to learn what leadership means to her through the Shah Academy program.
As she enters her junior year in college, Fadilat is focused on preparing for life beyond the classroom and developing the skills and experiences needed for her future career. She sees the Shah Academy as an opportunity to continue growing as a leader, expand her professional experiences, and continue developing the skills she will need to make a positive impact in the engineering field
