Improving student success and satisfaction
Here are some ways we've worked to do that:
Accessible Study Space On-Campus
Secured by SGA in tandem with university administration, University Crossing is open 24 hours, 5 days a week for students to use for study space. Between Sunday and Thursday every week, and 24/7 during finals, students may swipe into the building on the Salem Street side. All food services and board rooms close at normal time, but Club Hub and all open table space is free for use. Security remains in the building at all times.
Mental Health Resources for Students
Working with university administration, the Wellness Center, and the UMass Lowell community as a whole, SGA was one of the driving forces behind securing more mental health resources for students - reducing the wait time for a counseling appointment, hiring more counselors, and helping UMass Lowell launch a university-wide wellness campaign and become a JED-Campus.
Feminine Hygiene Products
SGA's Campus Life & Environment committee championed an initiative to get feminine toiletry products into bathrooms across campus. After working with the university, students may now find feminine hygiene products in the 1st floor bathrooms in University Crossing, the Campus Recreation Center, Costello Gym, Lydon Library, and O'Leary Library in both the women's and gender neutral bathrooms where applicable.
Affordable Parking
SGA worked with the University's Parking & Transportation Advisory Committee to ensure that the price of parking on campus will never exceed a 5% raise. Additionally, SGA works with the Committee to ensure student parking remains affordable on a yearly basis.
