A Unified Hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research at UML
The Center for AI Computing Research (AICORE) at UMass Lowell was established to address a critical gap: world-class AI research was happening across multiple departments, but without a unified structure for industry engagement, cross-disciplinary collaboration or coordinated funding.
AICORE brings together faculty from the Kennedy College of Sciences, the Francis College of Engineering, the Manning School of Business, and the College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences — creating a genuinely interdisciplinary environment that mirrors the complexity of modern AI challenges.
Our mission is to advance fundamental and applied AI research, build an industry-engaged talent pipeline, and translate AI innovations into high-impact applications across cybersecurity, defense, healthcare, business and education.
