Biography

Denise R. Dunlap is an Associate Professor of global strategic management, innovation and entrepreneurship at the Manning School of Business. She received a PhD from the Fox School of Business at Temple University. Prior to joining UMASS Lowell, she taught at Northeastern University, Temple University (Philadelphia & Japan), and Widener University in undergraduate, MBA and EMBA programs.

Her research focuses on how global knowledge sourcing strategies matter for innovation. She is most well-known for her research on breakthrough innovations and those that improve universal health within the global, bio-pharmaceutical and med-tech industries

She is the Director of the Biotech East program for Ph.D. and post-doctorates in life sciences, which is a partnership between UMASS Lowell, the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB), and Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) of the Claremont Colleges. She is on the Executive Board of the Massachusetts Medical Development Center (M2D2). She also serves on the Editorial Review Board for the Journal of International Business Studies.

She is a business PI on two NIH grants: the Center of Advancing Point of Care Technologies (CAPCaT) and Center for Accelerating Practices to End Suicide (CAPES). CAPCaT and CAPES are interdisciplinary collaborations across the UMASS system including UMASS Chan Medical School to advance innovative technologies for patients with chronic diseases. She is also a business co-PI on the interdisciplinary NIH grant: UMASS Lowell LIFT (Lowell Innovative Fellows Training) Program.

She recently served as the business Co-PI for the NIH funded Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADx) initiative to aid in the Covid-19 crisis. She also served as a Vice Chair for the Academy of International Business US Northeast board and was a Fellow for the Deshpande Foundation. Her industry experience includes working for Fortune 500 firms like Waste Management.

Her work has been presented at well-respected academic conferences and international audiences such as the United Nation Conference on Trade and Development. Her research has been published in both business and scientific journals in the Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of International Management, Research Policy, among other journals.
