Description
Music education in Pre-K - 12 school music is becoming more global in scope. For the past several years, classroom music teachers have been including elements of music making that fall outside of the traditional forms to include all students. This course will teach future music educators how to engage their students through aspects of youth culture relevant to the children present in their classrooms. Students will learn how to run classes and ensembles intended to capture children's imagination outside of traditional music making. They will explore the theory underlying community music education to understand why and how it is practiced in school music. Students will engage in community music projects through which they will learn how to connect theory to practice in real-life contexts.
