Description
In this course, students will explore the extraordinary diversity of the peoples and cultures of Southeast Asia. The course may emphasize one or more of the following time periods: pre-history, the classical period, the colonial era, the modern era (19th & 20th centuries), and present day. Crossing both national and disciplinary boundaries, students will examine key elements of the geographies, histories, languages, belief systems, governments, economies, and creative arts of Southeast Asia, and how these have been influenced by various iterations of feudalism, colonialism, nationalism, authoritarianism, war, and environmental end ecological change. Readings will include seminal works from a multidisciplinary range of fields.

Pre-Req: ENGL 1020 College Writing II.
