HIST.2760 Asian American History

This course provides an overview of Asian American history and its relevance for contemporary issues. Drawing from both scholarly and creative tests, the course explores the formation of "Asian America," and why conceptions and understandings of it have shifted over time. Students will examine the Asian American experience within a transnational context, paying particular attention to the ways that Asian American lives have been shaped by the legacies of US wars in Asia and by the history of US racism. A primary goal of the course is to provide students with a basic understanding of the key debates and conversations in the field of Asian American Studies.
