Description

This course introduces future educators to the interdisciplinary foundations of social studies education, emphasizing strong subject-matter understanding across history, geography, civics, economics, and the social sciences alongside research-based pedagogical practices. Candidates explore inquiry-driven instruction, historical thinking routines, primary source analysis, discussion-based learning, literacy integration, and technology-enhanced approaches while learning to center diverse voices and culturally sustaining perspectives. Through lesson planning, curriculum analysis, collaborative activities, and reflective practice, students examine how to design developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned social studies instruction that promotes democratic engagement, critical thinking, and equitable learning opportunities for all students, including multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and learners of varied cultural identities.

Only students enrolled in BA Ed. degree program.
