Mission

The mission of the UMOVE Center is to understand the principles of movement, with a primary focus on vertebrate movement. UMOVE cultivates an integrative and transdisciplinary environment by combining principles of biomechanics with molecular techniques and human-based studies to develop a comprehensive understanding of biological movement.

The primary focus of UMOVE is translating basic discovery into new and exciting clinical applications aimed at addressing movement-related issues in health, injury rehabilitation and injury prevention. UMOVE trains the next generation of scientists to successfully pursue interdisciplinary research and to instill in them sound scientific approaches and ethics so that they will be prepared to enter the modern scientific workforce.

Vision

UMOVE’s vision is to establish an internationally recognized center for research and graduate education focused on improving our understanding of biomechanics from a truly interdisciplinary perspective, including comparative biology, nutrition, and public health, which are not commonly associated with traditional biomechanical centers.
