The University Library is here to support you and help you be successful during your time here at UMass Lowell. Please don’t hesitate to take advantage of all the amazing resources we have available to you from our books (both print and ebooks) to searching through our databases for the research articles you’ll need for papers. We provide a wealth of resources and services to get you through the semester, like digital videos you can watch any time, Ask A Librarian for library and research support, and research guides.

Both O'Leary Library (on South) and Lydon Library (on North) are available for you to use for group and quiet study. Due to changes on campus, we have adjusted our hours this semester:

  • Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Friday 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

If you are researching the history of Lowell or the university and need to access our Special Collections Library, you can do so by making an appointment to visit the Center for Lowell History.

Do you need scholarly, peer-reviewed articles for your papers? What about news articles on current events? Our databases are the best place to find the variety of articles you’re looking for. Plus, you can find those specific to your major.

Are you looking for books? Our catalog searches all our print and ebook titles PLUS books from around the world. You can easily request books to be ordered through Interlibrary Loan from your search results. Find the search box on the main library webpage

Did your professor put an item on reserve in the library? Each library has books put on reserve for easy access and short-term use. Books will be at the library on the same campus as your class.

There are multiple ways to get help when you need it. Drop-in research help is available at both libraries on Monday-Wednesday afternoons from 12:30-4:30 p.m. Additionally, you can chat with a reference librarian in real time, Monday-Thursday evenings from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and Friday afternoons from 1-3 p.m. Visit our Ask a Librarian page to start chatting today.

You can also book personal appointments with the Research & Learning Librarians. We’re happy to meet with you over Zoom or in person. Search through our Frequently Asked Questions to get answers to questions about the library’s resources and services. If you don’t find the answer, you can submit your question directly to us, or request a one-on-one appointment by emailing ask@uml.libanswers.com.

If you’re new to campus or need a refresher, visit our online Library Orientation for a library overview, and see our Beginning Your Research guide for more in-depth research help.
