Many of us at UMass Lowell work every day to create a safe environment where our students, faculty and staff can do their best work.

We are not alone in this effort. As this week’s tragic mass shooting at Michigan State University reminds us, a safe campus requires everyone’s participation and preparation.

I would ask that you please keep in mind the following:

  • Heed campus-wide alerts during an emergency, and please login to confirm and update your information, including cell number, at http://www.uml.edu/myalert
  • Ensure your emergency contact information is current:
    • Students: Review your Emergency Contacts by logging into SiS, navigating to “Personal Information” in the toolbar, clicking on “Emergency Contacts” and editing your existing contact information or adding a new contact.
    • Faculty and staff: Log into HR Direct and the “Employee Self Service” page, then navigate to “Personal Details” followed by “Emergency Contacts” on the toolbar. Please add or update your information accordingly.
  • Everyone’s vigilance is essential. Never hesitate to report suspicious activity by calling UMass Lowell Police at 978-934-2394, or in case of an emergency, 44-911 from an on-campus phone.
  • Be mindful of our active shooter protocol: RUN, HIDE and FIGHT. Please take a few minutes to review our guidelines for how to respond to an active threat. For more information, please refer to the active threat training video made available by the University of Massachusetts system.
  • Become familiar with UMass Lowell Alerts: All features of this system are tested a minimum of once per semester.
  • Take care of yourself.

Students in need may seek counseling services from the Wellness Center.
