The ADVANCE Office for Faculty Equity invites applications for the position of Faculty Director to begin Sept. 1, 2023. The position will run for a three-year term with the possibility of renewal, and carries a $10,000 annual stipend, part of which may be used to cover a course release with dean's approval.

The mission of the ADVANCE Office for Faculty Equity (OFE) is “to promote an equitable, inclusive, and empowering work environment in which all faculty receive support, resources and opportunities in order to thrive at UMass Lowell.” The OFE, soon to be located in the new Faculty Success Center in University Crossing, promotes equity through numerous initiatives at ranging from increasing supports for marginalized faculty, to promoting an inclusive work environment, to addressing the expression of interpersonal biases, to identifying policies and practices in which biases can be embedded. In the past, these initiatives have included bystander training, department climate assessments, and 50/50 lectures, to name a few.

The ADVANCE OFE Faculty Director reports to the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, and is responsible for providing strategic leadership and overseeing all aspects of the initiatives connected to the office. The Faculty Director works with the OFE full-time staff Program Director and a Leadership Team made up of diverse faculty members. The Faculty Director is responsible for proposing and monitoring annual OFE goals, setting deadlines, and delegating tasks to team members. The director maintains a strong team dynamic through open communication and collaboration on key decisions.

We welcome applications from any full-time faculty member (including teaching, clinical, and TT faculty), from any discipline with a priority for applicants who are well established at UML and are at the level of associate or full professor. Qualifications also include:

  • A passion for and experience in addressing issues related to diversity, equity and inclusion in organizational workplaces
  • An understanding of the dynamics of systemic organizational change, including the ability to promote change at multiple levels
  • Leadership skills, including experience motivating a team and promoting collaborative working relationships
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work effectively with varied campus constituencies
