The Office of Multicultural Affairs is thrilled to bring back this important annual tradition to campus following a COVID pause!
This event is for you, students! You are invited to the 12th Annual MLK Jr. Celebration Dinner, the centerpiece of Martin Luther King Jr. week at UMass Lowell on Wednesday, Jan. 25 in Moloney Hall in University Crossing. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m., with the formal program beginning at 5:30 p.m. There will be performances by student groups, and time to meet other students, faculty, staff and alumni.
The legacy of MLK Jr. encourages us all to remember not only Dr. King’s words, but also the courage and sacrifices of those unsung heroes in the service of justice. Join us as we highlight and uplift our campus community leaders of today and honor yesterday’s voices in the Civil Rights movement.
Please take this opportunity to nominate a student, faculty or staff member for this year’s MLK Jr. Distinguished Service Award! You can also self nominate yourself. We are accepting nominations until Jan 13.
Register to attend the event. This year, the keynote presenter is Asst. Professor Chandra D.L. Waring in the Sociology Department at UMass Lowell. As a recipient of an MLK Jr. Legacy scholarship award during her college career at the University of Connecticut, much of her course work and research connect to community action, engagement, and social justice awareness as it relates to intersections of race and gender.
Lastly, stay tuned for the full programming and engagement schedule throughout all of MLK week!
