With the exciting announcement that UMass Lowell will be returning to normal operations for the fall 2021 semester, the parking program for the 2021-22 academic year has been announced. The full announcement, including parking locations by student type, can be found on the UCAPS website, and the following are the highlights for the fall:
- Student parking permits will be $450 for the 2021-22 academic year.
- The Cross River Center Lot at 1001 Pawtucket Blvd is being used as a Lowell mass-vaccination site and will no longer be available for UMass Lowell parking.
- Freshmen and sophomore commuter students, irrespective of major, will be required to park on South Campus (previously at 1001 Pawtucket Blvd).
- Student parking permits will remain virtual and no physical decal will be issued. We are excited about this change as it allows us to provide faster parking access without the need to have a decal mailed/issued or have anything printed. Parking lots will continue to require access via your UCard, and access will be provided to those who order a virtual permit only to the lots where you are eligible to park.
- To ensure vehicles are parking legally, parking enforcement will begin utilizing a License Plate Recognition (LPR) system developed by UMass Lowell, which uses a handheld camera to scan license plates to verify they are connected to a valid permit for the parking lot.
