What other opportunities are there for us to connect with students?
Virtual Sessions
Connect with students online to maintain brand presence on campus, share hiring needs and connect in groups or 1:1 with interested candidates. We can help you host a virtual session using our Zoom video conferencing platform, or you can host it directly on your own virtual platform.
- Handshake can be utilized as normal to request events.
- Select “Virtual."
- Description should include what student population the virtual event is geared toward, or what positions/functions will be discussed.
Virtual event requests will be reviewed and approved by our staff. If you’d like use our Zoom platform, email us so we can coordinate the event.
Virtual event ideas:
- Host a virtual Info Session to discuss opportunities and provide time for Q&A
- Host a webinar to support student development of soft or technical skills
- Host a virtual company tour
- Host virtual "office hours" and meet with students 1:1
How can I prepare to participate in the Virtual Career Fairs?
We encourage all organizations to review and update their current postings on Handshake. We continue to emphasize to students that they should utilize Handshake as a primary source for their internship, co-op and employment search. Additional instructions and tips will be sent to registered employers.
For fall 2020, UMass Lowell is offering five virtual career fairs. Learn more about the fall 2020 Career Fair Schedule.
Can we still recruit students for full time, internship and co-op positions?
Yes. Students are still actively looking for all job opportunities. We recommend:
- Adjusting your job descriptions in Handshake to address the ability to work remotely. This is an important question among our students.
- Conduct your interviews over the phone or virtually through Skype or Zoom. While video interviews can be very effective to establish a connection, please remember that not all students have access to reliable video.
- Talk with your student about a work plan that works for both of you. You should share information about what other employees are doing, how the company is keeping their employees safe, and how the nature of work might change be given the circumstances. The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) published an article on working with students remotely.
