Ready to Apply? Application for the Professional Co-op Program
Apply Online for the Professional Co-op Program
Students who want to participate in the Professional Co-op Program must first fill out the online application. A completed application does NOT guarantee a spot in the program. After receiving the completed online application form, the respective Co-op Coordinator / Assistant Director will be in touch to discuss next steps.
Students may apply after the deadline, however there are a limited number of seats in each of the required Professional Development Seminars (required first course, usually taken the semester before a student wishes to do a co-op).
Note: If accepted, students wishing to participate in the Professional Co-op Program MUST successfully complete the required 1-credit Professional Development Seminar (PDS). PDS offerings for the spring 2020 semester and still being finalized, but the fall 2019 semester sections were as follows and will likely be similar for the coming semester:
Search the UMass Lowell online Academic Catalog for "Professional Development Seminar" for a description of your college's PDS.
This form is completed by students as they progress through the Professional Development Seminar and outlines the responsibilities of the co-op coordinator and the expectations of the students in terms of commitment to the three-phase cycle of the program including all academic work term requirements and post co-op academic coursework.
Once an offer of co-op employment has been extended by an organization and accepted by a UMass Lowell student, all of the co-op partners, including the University, enter into an agreement that outlines the expectations and responsibilities for all parties. It is the co-op student’s responsibility to report the co-op hire in the manner advised by their respective co-op advisor. All information will be collected online.
The online co-op agreement forms have several required parts and all must be on file with the Career and Co-op Center prior to the start of student employment.
A key component in any co-op experience is the development of learning objectives. The co-op student, in consultation with their supervisor, identifies achievable performance objectives early in the co-op period and submits this information to their co-op advisor. The employer and student monitor these goals throughout the employment term.
At the conclusion of each co-op work experience, evaluations are completed by both the student and the employer. Click here for examples of these evaluations.
International Students please visit the UMass Lowell International Students and Scholars Office for additional information.
